When Maro Stephenson was nine years old. Her father picked up his family from the busy streets of Washington D.C. to move across the world back to his homeland of Chios, Greece. White-washed facades, rocky beaches and crystal blue water held it’s charms, but the culture shock of transitioning from the city life to island life left it’s impression. Maro returned to the US to study finance and accounting at Georgetown University and worked at a large accounting firm. Moving successfully through the ranks, she realized that something was amiss. In 2011, Maro left public accounting to launch what would become a successful software start-up. However, the stress of founding a company, coupled with the responsibly of being mother to her two sons resulted in skirting the fine veil between anxiety and depression.
But yoga and meditation changed everything. Encouraged to attend a class with a friend, Maro immediately fell in love with the practice and has since spent the last ten years dedicating herself to learning and honing this craft that transforms body and soul.
Maro teaches in Asheville, North Carolina where she lives with her husband and two beautiful boys.
